Start a Club

Thinking of starting a new club? That’s awesome!

Before you begin, take a look through Ookslife.ca to see what clubs are already active. If you don’t see one that matches your idea — that’s your sign to start something new!

What You Need to Start

To register a club, you’ll need:

  • Three current NAIT students who are just as excited as you are.
These three must take on one of the following roles:
  • President
  • VP Operations
  • VP Finance

Once you’ve got your team and your club’s purpose figured out, you’re ready to register.

Important Things to Know

  • Everyone is Welcome

NAIT clubs must be inclusive. Membership can’t be restricted based on age, race, religion, ability, social status, gender, or sexual orientation.

  • Get Involved — Mindfully

You can join as many clubs as you like, but you can only hold up to two executive positions across all clubs.

  • Unique Purpose Required

Clubs need a distinct purpose — we don’t allow clubs with the same or very similar goals. This keeps the club community diverse and meaningful.
Check Ooks Life first to make sure your club idea stands out.

  • Clubs Aren’t for Class Projects

You can’t create a club to complete class assignments or use club resources for coursework.

Club Branding Guidelines

When creating your club or considering a refresh of your club identity, it’s important to maintain a clear separation from NAIT’s official branding.

Use of 'NAIT' in club names

Use of “NAIT” in club names:
Clubs don’t have to use “NAIT” in their names, but if they choose to, it must appear at the end — for example:

  • Coffee Club of NAIT

  • Photography Club at NAIT

  • X‑NAIT

Using “NAIT” at the beginning of a club name (e.g., NAIT Coffee Club) is not permitted, as it can create confusion between a student-led club and an official NAIT department or initiative.

Logos and Visual Identity

Clubs may not use the likeness of the NAIT Ook, Ooks Life branding, or the NAIT Shield logo in any form. This includes a combination of following:

  • The “hovering” owl with a bold, intense expression.

  • The navy-and-yellow color scheme strongly associated with NAIT Athletics.

  • The NAIT Shield logo or any design elements that closely resemble it.

Even if your design uses similar colors or imagery in different ways, the overall look and feel can still create an unintended connection to official NAIT or Ooks branding, which is why such designs are not allowed.

Ooks Life “NAITSA” branding:
Similarly, Ooks Life imagery, logos, or branding elements cannot be incorporated into your club’s visuals.
