Conflict Resolution
Running Into Conflict? Here’s What to do first
It’s completely natural for clubs to experience conflict from time to time—especially in collaborative and high-energy environments. If tensions arise in your club, here’s how to handle it in a healthy, productive way:
1. Pause & Reflect
Take a moment to understand what’s going on. What is the issue? How is it impacting the group? What outcome are you hoping for? Approach the situation with curiosity and a mindset of problem-solving—not blame.
2. Communicate Directly
If it feels safe, talk to the person or people involved. Focus on honest, respectful, and clear communication. Speak to the impact of actions rather than making it personal.
3. Refer to Your Club Bylaws
Review your club’s bylaws, especially if the issue involves roles, responsibilities, or decision-making. Your bylaws are there to help guide fair and transparent solutions.
4. Bring in an Executive Peer
If a direct conversation feels too tough or doesn’t resolve the issue, involve another club executive. They can help mediate the conversation or offer support.
