NAITSA CAMPUS CLUBS CODE OF CONDUCT

General Conduct

  • Recruit new members respectfully—aggressive or forceful tactics are not permitted.
  • Clubs must respect diverse beliefs and foster inclusive environments.
  • Follow all NAIT & NAITSA policies, along with all local, provincial, and federal laws.
  • Clubs must be student-driven.
    • Sharing knowledge between members and advisors is encouraged to maintain continuity each year.
  • If a club notices any missing or damaged NAITSA property, report it to NAITSA Campus Clubs. (also NAIT property if it applies to an event associated with the club)
  • Clubs are not official agents of NAITSA,  they may not speak on behalf of NAITSA or act in its name.  For example, contracts or agreements must be made under the club’s name.
  • Do not use the NAITSA logo without prior permission.

Restrictions

  • Clubs cannot be used to run or operate a business.
    • Clubs are not permitted to conduct ongoing or day-to-day entrepreneurial ventures under the club name.
    • If students wish to pursue a business, it must operate entirely outside of club activities and identity.
  • Pub crawls are not permitted as fundraising events.
      • This restriction is non-negotiable due to the risks involved and the potential long-term impact on students.

Club Guidelines: Representation, Respect, and Responsibility

  1. Representation
    • Your club’s values and opinions are your own.
    • Clubs of a political or social justice nature must make it clear in all communications and activities that their views are their own and do not represent NAIT or NAITSA, which remain non-partisan.
    • Example: [Insert a short, simple statement a club might use — e.g., “The views of this club are our own and do not represent NAIT or NAITSA.”]
  1. Respect, Inclusion, and Safeguards
    • Events and activities must not involve hate speech (as defined under Section 319 of Canada’s Criminal Code) or marginalize equity-deserving groups.
    • Clubs cannot exist solely to promote hatred, violence, or propaganda.
    • Clubs cannot demean governments, countries, religions, individuals, or groups of people.
    • Activities must not be offensive, discriminatory, or otherwise inappropriate for the campus community (e.g., misogynistic, homophobic).
    • Clubs must not advocate for genocide, incite hatred, or promote hatred against an identifiable group.
    • Everyone should feel safe and welcome to participate — or to choose not to.
  1. Political Campaigning
    • Political campaigning or promotion of candidates for municipal, provincial, or federal office is not permitted on campus.
    • Clubs must not feature candidates during an election campaign in a way that provides them with an unfair advantage.
  1. Student Rights and Responsibilities
    • All activities must align with NAIT’s Student Rights and Responsibilities.
    • This includes respecting the rights and privileges of others, and ensuring your club’s actions don’t infringe on them.
    • Clubs must avoid activities that could damage or negatively affect the reputation of NAITSA or NAIT.
  1. Reputation
    • Clubs must consider how their activities reflect on the broader campus community.
    • Protecting the reputation of NAIT and NAITSA is a shared responsibility.
    • We recognize the right to free speech, expression, inquiry, and political affiliation, so long as it doesn’t interfere with the rights of others or violate NAIT policy.
    • We want to support clubs in creating a space where your members can share ideas and build community while keeping it inclusive and respectful for everyone.
